Julie Baker-Nolan is an empathic and non-judgmental licensed social worker, who uses a strength based approach to meet her clients wherever they are in their story. She seeks to empower her clients to help them clarify their voice, identity and life purpose. Through her own journey to become a counselor, Julie has had a wide variety of experiences in the mental health field working with children, adolescents, and adults.
Once she completed dual Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Philosophy with an emphasis in Women’s Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Julie moved to Ohio to pursue her Master’s degree. Once in Ohio, she took a clinical research position with the University of Cincinnati’s Psychiatry Department to work at the Cincinnati VA on a National Institute of Drug Abuse grant in heroin addiction. At the VA, Julie also worked on clinical research in schizophrenia, bipolar, and PTSD. After obtaining her LSW, she worked at a hospital in an adult inpatient unit as a psychiatric social worker and as a community based therapist for children and adolescents.
Julie has a holistic view of treatment for body, mind, and spirit. With her clients, she incorporates CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), play therapy, 12 Steps and Seven Challenges, DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), and trauma-informed, evidenced-based practices, such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
In her free time, Julie enjoys hiking in the woods, gardening, camping, working out at the gym, rocking climbing, and preparing meals with friends and her three children. She is part of several small groups at her church.
