“The Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT)© is a developmentally sensitive, neurobiology informed approach to clinical problem solving developed by The ChildTrauma Academy. NMT is not a specific therapeutic technique or intervention. It is an approach that integrates core principles of neurodevelopment and traumatology to inform work with children, families, and the communities in which they live.” – ChildTrauma Academy

‘“One-size fits all” approaches rarely meet the needs of the individual – more often they meet a need of the provider (or system).’

- Dr. Bruce Perry

Lauren Parker, MSW, LISW-S* and Lindsay Back, MS, LPCC-S, RPT-S*, provide assessment and treatment planning using the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT) in partnership with the ChildTrauma Academy. Developed by Dr. Bruce Perry, the NMT is an evidence-based, “trauma-informed,” and brain-based approach to clinical problem solving.

Oftentimes, children who exhibit unhealthy and challenging patterns of behaviors such as aggression, self harm, trouble sleeping or difficulty regulating emotions, have had experiences that changed the way their brains developed. NMT’s goal is to support family, educators, and therapists to better meet the needs of the child through the use of a structured, evidenced based assessment. By taking into account current research and that the brain develops sequentially, the NMT assessment can give a clearer picture of the effects of adverse experiences on a child’s brain development.

With the NMT assessment and its brain mapping tool, Lindsay and Machen are better equipped to provide a treatment plan that is centered around each child’s unique neurodevelopmental needs. This approach has been found to effectively increase bonding and attachment, assist in regulating one’s emotions, and managing unhealthy behaviors.

NMT services include:

  • A comprehensive initial consultation and screening (phone/secure video chat): 30 minutes

    • Is this client appropriate for the NMT process?

    • Any current or past interventions

    • Brief developmental history

    • If the family is interested and NMT is found to be appropriate, NMT reading will be shared

  •  Initial assessment (in person preferred): 1.5 - 2 hours

    • An in depth assessment that covers all relevant developmental, medical, and historical data

  • Results appointment (in person preferred): 1-1.5 hours

    • Initial NMT metric that highlights the client’s unique brain map
