James Schmidt is a Licensed Social Worker and a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator. He is a proud graduate from the College of Mount St. Joseph. During college he served at Lighthouse Youth Services assisting teenagers from dysfunctional environments in creative ways to successfully reconnect them with society. He has spent the past 21 years of his career working in long-term nursing care facilities. Throughout his career he has taken on roles as a Corporate Compliance Social Service Director and an Ancillary Coordinator. He had extensive experience dealing with behavior management, crisis intervention and case management services. He counseled families during stressful situations to smoothly transition into long term care. He assisted residents with anxiety, depression and anger management as they experienced changes and loss. This experience has allowed him to successfully build and manage Social Services programming, policy implementation and quality improvements.
James is certified in the ALICE active shooter education, prevention and response program. He has provided management, support and training for fellow employees in his division to help foster critical thinking, problem-solving as well as team-centered approaches. He takes pride in being a good steward of those who he advocates for.
For seven years he coached youth football for the Oak Hills Local School District. Through coaching he was able to help the players develop resilience, cope with disappointment, learn from mistakes and make adjustments to strategies which can help them adjust to real life situations.
In his free time, James likes to lift weights, read, landscape and spend time with his family.
